Set in black and white, “Like a Lie” shows the pair, Carrie (vocals) and Nils (production), walking slowly towards the shore, almost as if they’re walking away from a burning building they just set on fire. At the edge of the water, the two stop, frozen in time together but only for a moment. Next, Nils is left standing alone as Carrie is left motionless lying in the sand while her own voice is singing “Just like a lie, nothing can fill the holes left behind, they don’t get smaller in time…”
It’s an ambiguous video for a song of the same nature. Nils originally meant for it to be a love song, while Carrie wrote about her feelings of depression—of being stuck in a moment while her whole identity seems to be detaching from her.
